Fun in improving vocabulary

Language is the tool of communication. When we want to start studying a language, we must recognize it first. One thing which is very important in studying a language is vocabulary. It is the all language words either used or understood by a person or group of people. Vocabulary, a language component, is a basic component that must be learned at the first time.  

There are several ways that can help you to improve the vocabulary easily. They are reading, playing a game, singing, and making a social network. They are the fun ways, aren’t they? We choose them as the effective ways because it was proven.

The first way is reading. What is the thing that you should read? That thing is your favorite thing. For example, novel, magazine, short story, or article that written in English. If your hobby is reading an article in Indonesian, start from now you should try to read an article in English. You can choose the easiest and shortest article such as an article about vacation. You can try to read it at least a paragraph in a day. Not only reading but also understanding is needed in this way. You should understand its meaning. When you find out some difficult words means you find new words that can improve your vocabulary. Therefore, you should look for the meaning of those difficult words on dictionary.

The next is playing a game. Everyone do like to play a game because it can make them fun. Now, let’s combine playing and learning. You can play a game while improving your vocabulary.  What kind of game that can improve your vocabulary? For example, you can play an English game such as guessing the word. When you mention a word, your friend must guess a word based on the last letter of your word such as “Apple èexampleè Englishè hour” etc. The other English game can be found in computer. You can spend your free time by enjoying the English game.

The other way is singing. You can choose your favorite English song. Then try to look for the lyric and understand it. Commonly, the words of song are easier to memorize than the words of handout. When you always sing that song, you will easy to memorize the new words that you have found. Sometimes, you will find the synonym of a word. Therefore, you are be able to use it when you forget the synonym of that word.

The last is making social network. As we know that, this is technology era. Thus, you can expand your knowledge by using technology tool such as computer. You can use internet through the computer. You can make a social network such as Facebook. In Facebook, you can meet everyone whether from this country or from overseas. You can practice your spoken by speaking to the native speaker. In this way, you are not allowed to use Indonesian because your partner of conversation does not understand your native language (Indonesian). Therefore, you can force yourself to use English. Certainly, you are going to look for the meaning of some word or try to explain something that nothing in abroad. You should try to explain the characteristic of something that you are going to say.

These are the fun ways in improving vocabulary. They can be effective when you do them regularly. You have to have a dictionary when you are going to do them. It is able to help you when you find the difficult words in learning process.  After finding some words, you should practice it. Therefore, you will always memorize your vocabulary that you have found.
